Ford Doubles Down on Electric Vehicle Production
This week, Ford announced a plan to double its Electric vehicle (EV) production. With this new goal, the company hopes to become the second-largest EV producer in the world “within the next couple years.” Chief Executive Jim Farley tweeted his excitement for the plan and the company’s expectations for its EV lineup, which includes the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit van.
The company has also secured a semiconductor contract with GlobalFoundries to support the manufacturing plan. This will allow Ford to increase production of EVs to 600,000 units by 2023. This number is double their original plan of 300,000 units.
Ford’s commitment to increased EV production has been met with enthusiasm across the industry. Although the 600,000-unit goal represents just 10% of Ford’s current production, the company has stated that it hopes for EVs to make up 40% of its sales by 2030. This commitment to more sustainable transportation has been welcomed by many, as the need for cleaner, more efficient transportation solutions becomes increasingly pressing.
The transition to more Electric vehicles is not without its challenges. Ford’s production of EVs is expected to require more sophisticated technology and high-quality components. Additionally, the company will need to invest in the infrastructure needed to support EVs, including charging stations and other necessary resources.
Ford’s plan to double its EV production is a promising sign that the company is serious about its commitment to creating a more sustainable future. As the second-largest EV producer in the world, Ford will be better positioned to take advantage of the growing EV market, as well as the potential for EV technology to revolutionize the transportation industry.
The increased production of EVs will also create more jobs and economic opportunities across the industry. The increased demand for EVs will lead to the need for more engineers, technicians, and other personnel who are qualified to work on this new technology. This could have a positive impact on the economy, as well as on Ford’s bottom line.
Overall, Ford’s plan to double its EV production is an exciting development, and one that could have far-reaching benefits. The shift to more Electric vehicles is a necessary one, and Ford is leading the way. The company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation is admirable, and will no doubt lead to better, more efficient transportation solutions for the future.
