Reliance Jio and Tesla are reportedly in talks to form a 5G alliance. This collaboration between India’s telecom behemoth and Elon Musk’s Texas based EV giant could possibly involve the construction of a ‘captive private network’. This network would manage Tesla’s operations at lightning speed.
The discussions, which are currently in the preliminary stage, could take a more consolidated shape if (and when) Tesla opts for India over China for setting up its Gigafactories. Jio has spent a huge sum of money to acquire spectrums in the following bandwidths for the next 20 years – 700MHz, 800MHz, 1800MHz, 3300MHz, and 26GHz bandwidths.
The Mukesh Ambani led Jio is taking steps to reach out to leaders in various sectors including automobile, manufacturing, healthcare, among other industries to explore the possibilities of use cases powered by Jio’s infrastructure and network.
With Adani’s Hindenburg disaster, Reliance Jio has an upper hand over any (and all) competitors in India. The company has already rolled out its services in major metros.
The 5G alliance between Reliance Jio and Tesla is still in its nascent stage and a lot of details are yet to be revealed. But if it comes through, this alliance could bring a lot of benefits to both the companies as well as India. Tesla could get access to a reliable 5G network to power its operations, while Jio could leverage its existing resources and expand its 5G services in India.
The potential alliance between Jio and Tesla is yet another example of the power of 5G and the potential it holds for India’s tech industry. With 5G networks already rolling out across the country, Indian companies are exploring innovative ways to leverage these new technology to their advantage.
