Lucid Motors recently issued a recall for 637 of its luxury Air sedans over concerns that they may lose power while driving. The California-based Electric vehicle manufacturer stated that the affected vehicles are from the 2022 and 2023 model years and that the issue originates from faulty contact switches manufactured by Sensata Technologies.
Lucid Motors became aware of the issue in May 2022 and deployed a software update to remotely identify at-risk contactors in 232 Air sedans. An additional 533 have not installed the software update, even though it has been available for over three months. All vehicles covered under the recall will have their contactors replaced at no cost.
The company has received one complaint from a customer who said his Lucid Air “lost power suddenly on the highway at night” while travelling at around 72mph (115km/h). The incident was understandably described as “very scary.”
