Rivian has recently secured a patent for a camp kitchen feature on its R1S SUV. This means that drivers of the Electric SUV will soon be able to get into the cooking spirit wherever they go. The camp kitchen setup includes a countertop that can be extended to reveal a cutting board, a cooktop, and storage compartments above. The different parts move in and out on rails.
According to the patent summary, Rivian may offer several configurations in the finished product. For example, buyers might be able to add a water pump apparatus consisting of a water tank and hose. This could be used for a quick shower after a hike out in nature.
However, Rivian fans should be cautiously optimistic as not all patents transform into finished products. The EV startup had originally planned to include camp kitchens in the R1T’s gear tunnel, but cancelled the feature in 2022 after polls suggested that the demand for the feature was low.
If it is released, the camp kitchen feature could be a great addition to the R1S. The kitchen setup could be used to make a quick meal on the go, or even just to make a cup of coffee. It could also be a great way to take a break and enjoy the beauty of nature without having to leave your vehicle.
