Tesla Charging Plug Mandate: Washington State Takes Final Steps

Washington State is taking the final steps to enforce a new regulation that mandates companies to include Tesla’s Electric vehicle (EV) charging plug if they wish to access federal funds. This move follows a similar move made by Texas earlier this week, in yet another show of confidence for Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS).

Tonia Buell, an official from Washington’s Transportation Department, emphasized the importance of future-proofing the state’s infrastructure through this mandate. Buell, who leads Washington’s alternative fuels program, stated that the recommendation for the requirement of NACS connectors would be presented to the Interagency Electric Vehicle Coordinating Council for final approval. These recent developments in Texas and Washington are yet another blow to what used to be the dominance of the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard. However, it’s important to note that federal regulations still require charging stations to support CCS if they want access to federal funds.

In recent weeks Ford, GM, Rivian, and almost all charging providers have endorsed NACS and committed to adding the connector to their charging stations. This is a significant milestone for Tesla as it further solidifies their position as a leader in the Electric vehicle industry.

Tesla’s NACS standard has a wide range of benefits for EV owners, including faster charging times, easier access to charging stations, and improved safety. The standard is also widely compatible with most Electric vehicles, making it an attractive choice for companies and government agencies looking to upgrade their infrastructure. Additionally, the standard is gaining traction in other countries, including Canada, Australia, and the UK.

Tesla’s charging plug mandate is a testament to the company’s commitment to providing the best Electric vehicle experience for its customers. This move is likely to further increase the popularity of Tesla’s EVs and could eventually lead to more widespread adoption of the NACS standard.

The move is also likely to have a positive impact on Tesla’s stock price, as the company continues to gain recognition for its innovation and leadership in the Electric vehicle industry. While the mandate is still awaiting approval in Washington, it’s likely that other states will soon follow suit.

Tesla’s charging plug mandate is yet another example of the company’s commitment to providing the best experience for its customers. With more states likely to follow suit, Tesla is sure to benefit from this move in the long run.
